Poetry is soul´s language. Poetry is a form of expression.
It is difficult to teach children poetry if you have not found the poet in yourself. You have be able to experience your environment in a sensory way.
Our main aim as a teacher is to make creativing poetry a sensory experience for children. It can be an expression of laughter and fun.
Teaching children to write poetry allows them to observe and feel all their senses. With this method they can improve their imagination, expression, creativity, let fly their emotions, have more rhythm...
To make funny poetry here you will find differents "recipes" to do it:
1. Read poetry to children and encourage them to do it. We must show that poetry can be funny, sad, silly or crazy.
2. Entertain children with rhymes and rhythm games. Nursery rhymes are often the first poems that people learn.Teach small children doing rhythmic structures with claps and set the pace with their foot while reading the poem, it is noisy but effective. A good example is to use with a kaiku poem.
3. Look around you a lot of ideas. Children often complain that they do not know what to write. Teach them to make a list of their three favorite things, and then show them how to write poems about them. Another idea its to ask volunteers that suggest a new topic for poems every day.
4. Show to the students figures of speech with similes and show them similes in poems. Provides examples of them when comparing two objects while using "like" or "as." Children probably need some indication at the beginning to write their own similes. Choose two objects that they can compare.
5. Put music to the students and listen with them. Children understand poetry when they realize that the lyrics are like poems with music.
Poetry is perhaps the most creative genre in which a child can learn to express his boundless imagination.
